NGCP to upgrade Bataan facilities ahead of new coal plant

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) will make some additions and improvements to its Bataan facilities ahead of the construction of GN Power's 600-megawatt coal-fired plant in Mariveles, the state-run company said Wednesday. The NGCP's three-part, P229-million Mariveles Coal Transmission Reinforcement Project will serve the new GN plant as well as the Pan Asia Power plant in Limay, Bataan. NGCP will built the 38-circuit kilometer (ckm) Mariveles-Bataan Combined Cycle Power Plant 230-kiloVolt (kV) transmission line under the new coal plant to connect it to the Luzon grid through Limay's BCCPP station. The company will also upgrade the Limay-Hermosa 230-kV line, the Limay substation to accommodate the increased capacity. In a statement, the NGCP said that the upgrading and expansions are being done to guarantee that grid operations will not be interrupted even if a major component malfunctions. The Dutch firm GN Power announced its plans to build the 600-MW coal-fired plant last year. It is expected to be operational this year. NGCP operates, maintains and develops the Philippines’ transmission highway, owned by the National Transmission Corp. — BM, GMA News
