Bubble wrap maker Sealed Air sees PHL operations expanding
Cleaning and hygiene solutions provider Sealed Air Corp., which pioneered the use of bubble wrap packaging, expects its Philippine operations to expand with the growth in construction and the economy in general.
“The Philippines is a key growth market for us because it is an emerging market with a strong services sector that is growing and local firms are also becoming global,” Sealed Air vice-president for Southeast Asia Paul Budsworth told reporters in a roundtable discussion on Wednesday.
Sealed Air Philippines, which distributes packaging products for food and valuable goods as well as industrial cleaning equipment, expects a double-digit growth in Philippine revenues.
The expanding number of middle class families—aware of hygienic standards in food—is the good for the packaging business, Budsworth noted, saying a new market for Sealed Air Philippines' cleaning equipment has sprouted with the construction boom that foreshadows new buildings and hotels.
The high level of urbanization in the Philippines—one of its most competitive markets—is another growth driver for the company.
Food and beverage packaging is the biggest chunk of Sealed Air’s business, followed by floor and laundry cleaners and protective packaging.
Listed on the New York Stock Exchange, the company is “a $7.6 billion business” with manufacturing facilities in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, and is present in 175 countries. — VS, GMA News
