Local mix and sauce firm eyes expansion into South Africa, Latin America

Mama Sita’s Holdings Co. Inc., a local mix and sauce firm, is eyeing expansion to tap Filipinos living in South Africa and Latin America.

Interviewed on Monday, Mama Sita's export marketing manager Eric Mallari said the firm's “outlook is good because there is a lot of interest in our products.”

“We are in fact looking at possibly expanding our market to South Africa this year and in the future Central America because these are big markets we have not yet tapped,” he said.

Mallari said there are a lot of opportunities to export because “our raw materials are very good.”

At present, the company exports to North America, Canada, Europe, Australia and the Middle East, where its products are sold in mainstream supermarkets.

Mama Sita is owned by the family that established the Aristocrat Restaurant in Manila. It sells mixes for marinades, barbecues and other Filipino foods as well as sauces like soy sauce and peanut sauce.

Mallari said the interest in their products comes not just from Filipinos living abroad. “In some countries, our palabok mix is actually used to cook soup so there is a different use,” he said.

Mallari said because of the interest in other countries, “we have to tailor our packaging depending on the country.” — KBK, GMA News
