Philips projects RP mobile phone sales to reach P2B
Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands on Monday said it expects mobile phone sales to reach P2 billion this year as it makes a comeback in the Philippine market. Philips, through its regional unit Philips Mobile Singapores, has tapped TCI to be its exclusive distributor, after two years of marketing absence in the Philippines. TCI distributes prepaid cards and mobile phone peripherals throughout the country. In an interview, TCI president Joey Uy said they are targeting to sell up to 500,000 units of Philips cellular phones this year with an estimated total sales value of P2 billion. Uy said Philips phones are priced competitively at P4,000 to P13,000 and that their products have more features compared to other brands in the same price range. TCI will be offering 70 percent of Philips phones through network operators Smart, Globe and Sun Cellular and the remaining 30 percent directly to consumers. "Philips will be banking on the operators' distribution network strength and aggressive promotions using the tri-media," Uy said. Philips phones currently available locally are the Philips S220 priced at P3,990 and the Philips S660 at P4,990. -GMANews.TV
