NGCP to complete 138-kV transmission line in Cebu by end-2014
National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) targets to complete the P602-million Colon-Calung-Calung 138-kilovolt (kV) transmission line project by end-2014 to cope up with increasing demand in Cebu, it said Friday.
The project will connect two substations in Cebu—Colon to Calung-Calung—to increase grid-transfer capability of the 246-megawatt Cebu Energy Development Corporation (CEDC) Coal-Fired Power Plant in Toledo.
In an e-mailed statement, NGCP said the project includes construction of a 28-kilometer transmission line and installation of additional power circuit breakers and corresponding accessories at the two substations.
Rico Vega, NGCP deputy assistant chief technical officer for Planning and Engineering, said the project was originally planned to connect Colon and Calung-Calung substations with the Toledo substation—in the middle of the two —but due to space constraints was redesigned to directly connect the two substations.
“The project will not only increase NGCP’s transfer capability but will also accommodate the future entry of Toledo Power Company’s coal-fired plant," Rico said. — DOR/VS, GMA News
