Manila Water steps up repair efforts to prevent water contamination from floods
East Zone concessionaire Manila Water Company Inc. has further intensified efforts to repair leaks in its service area to prevent possible water contamination caused by floods.
In the rainy season, flood waters may seep into leaky water pipes and bring in bacteria and chemical contaminants.
According to east zone business operations group director Ferdinand Dela Cruz,Manila Water repaired 2,617 service connection leaks in different communities in April, or 99 percent of leak complaints from its customers.
For the first quarter of 2013 alone, there were 165 cases of reported leaks repaired within 24 hours.
As the private concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, Manila Water provides water and wastewater services to more than 6.2 million residents in Marikina, Pasig, Makati, Taguig, Pateros, Mandaluyong, San Juan, portions of Quezon City and Manila and several towns of nearby Rizal. — BM, GMA News
