Tiger Airways Philippines wants up to 90% increase in fuel surcharge
Tiger Airways Philippines, formerly Southeast Asian Airlines Inc. (Seair), wants the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) to approve an increase in fuel surcharge charged to passengers in its international destinations.
The regulator lets airlines impose fuel surcharge on international and domestic passengers so carriers may recover losses from higher jet fuel prices.
The budget airline is eyeing a 60 percent to 90 percent increase for flights to Bangkok and Singapore from Clark International Airport in Pampanga and Kalibo International Airport in Aklan.
Tiger Airways Philippines is seeking from CAB the go ahead to raise by 60 percent to P800 from P500 the fuel surcharge on Clark to Singapore flights, and by 70 percent to P850 from P500 on Clark to Bangkok flights.
For its Kalibo to Singapore route, launched only last week, Tiger Airways wants a 90 percent increase in fuel surcharge.
According to latest results the International Air Transportation Association (IATA) Jet Fuel Price Monitor, jet fuel rose by 4.5 percent to $123.50 a barrel.
A unit of Singapore's Tiger Airways, Tiger Airways Philippines flies to Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong and to Philippine destinations including Clark, Laoag, Bacolod, Kalibo, Cebu, Iloilo, Tacloban, and Puerto Princesa.
