Emperador International Ltd., the international liquor arm of Andrew Tan's listed Alliance Global Group Inc., acquired more vineyard land in Spain as part of efforts to increase production and support growth plans in the Philippines and in new markets.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Emperador International said its Spanish subsidiary Grupo Emperador Spain S.A. has acquired 409 hectares of land in Madrid, Spain.
"We are building more vineyards in order to support our brandy production in Spain," Jorge Domecq Bohórquez, managing director of Emperador International said in a statement.
Last August, Emperador International said it was investing P5.8 billion over 12 months – in Spain – in line with a strategy to grow its brandy brand globally.
Part of the P5.8 billion was used to buy 509 hectares of prime land in Toledo, Spain.
Domecq said the Emperador Deluxe Spanish Edition, produced and bottled in Spain, is well received by the Philippine market and the goal is to double sales volume in 2014.
"Sales of this product have exceeded our expectations since we launched it in the Philippines a few months ago,” he said. “We expect to more than double our sales volume for Emperador Deluxe next year,” he said.
In order to grow the brand growth, Emperador International is also introducing to drink to the Vietnamese.
“We are currently preparing to launch Emperador Deluxe to the Vietnam market next year,” Domecq said. – VS, GMA News
