PAL orders 2 Boeing planes for US flights

Lucio Tan-controlled Philippine Airlines has ordered two more Boeing 777-300ER commercial minijumbo airplanes to expand its flights to the United States. The country's flag carrier also acquired purchase rights for two additional 777-300ERs, a statement posted Thursday on the Boeing website said. PAL, the oldest airline in Asia, flies to 24 foreign cities and 18 domestic destinations. "The acquisition of the Boeing 777-300ER allows PAL to expand direct services between the Philippines and the United States," PAL president Jaime J. Bautista said in the statement. "Our passengers will also benefit from the higher level of comfort and amenities that this high-technology aircraft brings," he added. Last week, PAL's main rival, budget airline Cebu Pacific said it will buy 20 more Airbus A320s worth $1.3 billion to further expand its fleet.-GMANews.TV
