FEU to offer basic education soon  


Far Eastern University (FEU) will soon offer basic education on top of higher education courses offered in its campuses.

Far Eastern University Inc.'s board of trustees authorized in a meeting held Tuesday  the formation and incorporation of a subsidiary to be known as  FEU High School Inc.

The company said the new subsidiary, which will use "FEU" in its corporate and brand names, will offer and conduct enhanced basic education programs.

FEU High School will have an authorized capital stock of P40 million and 400,000 shares with the par value of P1.00 apiece.

The board named Michael M. Alba, Juan Miguel R. Montinola, Paulino Y. Tan, Aurelio R. Montinola III, and Glenn Z. Nagal as incorporators.

The company will pay P2,499,500.00 to subscribe to 99,995 shares in FEU High School, Inc. at par value of P100.00 per share.

In 2010, the Department of Education announced plans to increase basic education cycle from the current 10 years to 12 years, or the “enhanced K+12 basic education program."

Aside from the mandatory implementation of kindergarten launched in school year 2011-2012, students are now required to undergo kindergarten, six years of elementary (Grades 1-6), four years of junior high school (Grades 7-10) and two years of senior high school (Grades 11-12).

FEU was established and founded by Dr. Nicanor Reyes Sr. in 1928 along Morayta Street in Manila's University Belt, according to its Facebook page. The street was later named Nicanor Reyes Sr.
