Caritas Manila: 'We're not the ones sending you spam text messages'

The Catholic Church's social arm Caritas Manila on Friday clarified it is not affiliated in any way with Caritas Health Shield, a company recently hit for sending spam or unsolicited text messages.
In a notice, Caritas Manila said it is not connected to Caritas Health Shield, one of two companies ordered by the National Telecommunications Commission to stop spam texts.
"Caritas Health Shield is NOT IN ANY WAY CONNECTED with CARITAS MANILA," it said on its website and Twitter account:

On Thursday, Globe Telecom said the NTC ordered Caritas Health Shield Inc. and Center for Global Best Practices to stop sending spam messages to the network's customers.
Globe's news release described Caritas Health Sheild Inc. as a health insurance company.
But Caritas Manila described itself as a Church group "with social services and integrated family development programs for the poor and the vulnerable."
It also said it implements "key intervention programs for poverty alleviation are in education and economics to benefit its youth and family partners." — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
