NGCP on red alert; Meralco sets rotating brownouts in parts of NCR, nearby provinces


(Updated 10:32 a.m.) Rotating brownouts were implemented in parts of Metro Manila, Laguna, Cavite, Pampanga and Bulacan starting 10 a.m. Monday as the Luzon grid was placed on red alert.
 
The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines said Luzon was on red alert as many power plants are still out, GMA News' Julius Segovia reported.

Because of this, GMA News' Segovia said rotating brownouts may last for up to three hours Monday.
 

An update on the NGCP website as of 10 a.m. indicated that a reserve deficit of 519 megawatts, with system capacity at 6,826 MW and peak demand at 7,345 MW.
 
Meralco posted the initial set of areas to be affected on its Facebook page.
 
In its initial posts, Meralco indicated the brownouts may last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
