Glitch disrupts PLDT service in parts of Metro Manila

For about five hours Friday, several customers of the Philippine Long Distance and Telephone Co. had their landline services disrupted due to what the phone company said was a glitch in its switching facilities in Quezon City.

PLDT said it has restored its landline voice services at 3:05 p.m., following the malfunction at 10 a.m. It apologized to its customers and the public.

"Please be advised that PLDT’s landline voice services were fully restored at 3:05 p.m. today after a malfunction in one of its switching facilities in Quezon City at 10:00 am today affected services for residential and enterprise customers in parts of Metro Manila, Cavite, and Laguna," the company said on Facebook

It said it was now conducting a technical review to take corrective measures.

"Again, we wish to extend our sincere apologies to our customers and the public," PLDT said.

Earlier Friday, at least two government agencies and a private water concessionaire said their landline voice facilities were inaccessible and cited problems with their PLDT facilities.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said its 136 hotline was "temporarily inactive" as of 6 a.m., supposedly due to a "PLDT ISPM line fault."

"We regret any inconvenience this may cause," the MMDA said.

Water concessionaire Manila Water also advised its customers that its hotline 1627 may not be reached due to a PLDT "network outage."

It advised its customers to tweet it their concerns.

The Mandaluyong City government said a PLDT landline service "outage" since 10 a.m. affected residents and businesses in parts of Metro Manila, Cavite and Laguna.

It said PLDT's landline voice services experienced an outage around 10 a.m. "due to a malfunction in one of its switching facilities in Quezon City."

"The said malfunction affected our Emergency lines. For the meantime, the public may call the City's telephone truckline 532-5001 local 635. Thank you," it said. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
