Share-a-load validation message to curb text spams, says Globe

Globe users will soon receive validation messages after using Share-A-Load or Share-A-Promo transactions as preventative measures against text scams.

Yoly Crisanto, Globe Senior vice president for Corporate Communication, said in a statement Thursday the measure is necessary for customers who are still unaware that texting a number to a 10-digit mobile number with the number "2" appended in front of it would enact a Share-A-Load transaction.

"By putting in place this additional measure, we would help prevent our customers from unwittingly undertaking Share-A-Load transactions,” said Crisanto.

The validation message will read as follows:

“You are about to share PXXX load with 0916XXXXXXX. Reply YES within 5 minutes to proceed. P1/transaction. Report text scams to www.globe.com.ph/stopspam.”

Another validation message would come from 2652xxxxxxxxx, where the last 9 digits are the transaction number. Replying to the message is free of charge.

Customers who fail to reply within five minutes will receive the following message:

"We're sorry, but your Share-A-Load/Promo transaction has been cancelled because the response time exceeded 5 minutes. Please try again. Thanks!"

"Text scam messages are varying everyday using spiels like rewards, loyalty, MSF discount, roaming and bill overcharge, waiver of charges, refunds," the statement.

The company reduced Share-A-Load transactions to P150 for prepaid customers and P300 for postpaid in August to reduce incidents of scams asking for P500 Share-a-Load transactions.

Globe encouraged users to file incident reports on their new Stop Spam website, which has received over 42,000 reports since its establishment in June. (http://www.globe.com.ph/stopspam)
