California's HGST to turn PHL into operations hub in 5 years
By DANESSA O. RIVERA, GMA News
HGST, a California-based manufacturer of data storage devices, is eyeing to make the Philippines its production and research and development hub in five years, citing a robust workforce, a company official said Tuesday.
HGST is in the process of making its Philippine operations the center of its global network, HGST Philippines Corp. president and general manager Chandramogan Anamirtham told reporters on the sidelines of the 13th CEO Forum and 118th general membership meeting of the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Inc. (SEIPI) in Makati City.
The reason for this is because the Philippines has a good workforce, good and capable engineers,
"We are bringing more technology to the Philippines. We're bringing in more engineering capabilities in the Philippines," he said.
"We want to grow the technical capabilities here. We 50 to 60 percent close to our goal [of making the Philippines our hub]. We will be able to achieve that goal in three to five years," he added.
With the technology, HGST can produce new products with more value, Anamirtham said. "Without technology, we cannot do it – new programs, new products."
