Cebu Pacific warns public versus fraudulent booking websites

(Updated 7:26 p.m.) Cebu Air Inc. on Tuesday said travelers should book flights only via official websites and hotlines to avoid fraudsters who pretend to be official sales agents of the Gokongwei-led airline operator.

"We encourage the traveling public to book their flights through the official Cebu Pacific Air website or reservation hotlines and to transact with legitimate sales agents to prevent fraud and inconvenience," Cebu Air vice president for corporate affairs Jorenz Tanada said.

In an emailed statement Tuesday, the company submitted to the Philippine National Police and to Facebook – for account termination – the names, internet protocol addresses, and transactions details of supposed fraudsters.

In a separate interview with GMA News Online, Tañada said the airline turned over 14 Facebook profiles.

"These profiles have been reported by some of CEB's Facebook fans," he he added.

The fraudulent pages use the company brand to "pose as an official transaction page for the airline," Cebu Air, operator of budget carrier Cebu Pacific, said.

Fraudsters, who initiate fake transactions, ask for payments to be remitted individual accounts and not Cebu Air.

"We are working closely with the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group to protect our passengers from fraudsters whether online or in other channels," Tanada said. – Kathryn Mae P. Tubadeza/VS/JST, GMA News
