Megawide Construction to make bid for P18.72-B Kaliwa Dam PPP
By DANESSA O. RIVERA, GMA News
Listed contractor Megawide Construction Corp. on Tuesday said it is going for the P18.72-billion New Centennial Water Source-Kaliwa Dam Project – the second water project under public-private partnership (PPP).
"We're more comfortable and familiar with the [terms of reference] and business case of Kaliwa Dam," chairman and CEO Michael Cosiquien told GMA News Online via text.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Megawide said this will take the place of the P24.4-billion Bulacan Bulk Water Supply project. The company decided to drop out of this project, saying it is more comfortable going for the upcoming Kaliwa-Dam project.
Kaliwa Dam is Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System's second project under the PPP program, administrator Gerardo Esquivel told GMA News Online in a separate text message.
"Eight groups bought [prequalification] documents," he said.
The dam project aims to increase raw water supply to meet future potable water demand from Metro Manila and serve as another source apart from the Angat Dam Reservoir.
It involves the financing, design, and construction of an additional raw water supply source with a design capacity of 600 million liters per day (MLD), through the commissioning of the Kaliwa Dam, including intake facilities and other pertinent facilities.
Part of the project is a water conveyance system with a design capacity of 2,400 MLD, in anticipation of additional inflows from Laiban Dam upstream of Kaliwa Dam.
Last July, Megawide purchased bid documents for the Bulacan Bulk Water Supply Project but did not pursue the whole bid process.
For the Kaliwa Dam project, the other firms that bought bid documents, apart from Megawide, were Prime Metroline Holdings Inc., San Lorenzo Ruiz Builders and Developers Group, Obrascon Huarte Lain S.A., Abengoa Abeinsa Business Development, DM Consunji Inc., San Miguel Holdings Corp. and Filinvest Development Corp.
Bidding will be conducted under a build-and-transfer scheme, with lowest fixed annual amortization over 25 years as bidding parameter. – VS, GMA News
