34 Globe cell sites in Eastern Samar to be restored Monday
At least 34 cell sites of Globe Telecom Inc. affected by Tropical Storm Ruby in Eastern Samar are expected to be restored Monday, as a network operations team is now working on a base station controller in the province, the telco said.
Globe senior vice president for corporate communications Yoly Crisanto noted the team is now working on restoring a base solution controller in Gigoso, Giporlos in Eastern Samar.
"As soon as the Gigoso base station becomes operational, Globe expects to restore 34 cell sites within Eastern Samar starting Monday," she said.
The company noted 32 percent of the cell sites affected by Ruby were restored back to operations.
"Expect some cell sites to be fired up within 24 hours, although the complete restoration of all the 34 sites may take up to 72 hours since some of sites remain inaccessible due to landslides, floods and debris caused by the typhoon," Crisanto said.
Ruby on Saturday evening made its first landfall in Dolores, Eastern Samar and its second landfall in Cataingan, Masbate on Sunday morning.
Network operations did not suffer "catastrophic outages," Crisanto said.
Most service disruptions were due to the outages of commercial power and antennas were misaligned by strong winds.
The base station controller in Gigoso provides mobile coverage in Borongan, Can-avid, Dolores, Eduard, Gamay, Hernani, Canceledes, Sulat, Julian, Lapinig, Lloren, Luis, Mabuta, McArthur, Maydolong, Mapanas, Oras, Salcedo, San Policarpio, Sulat, Taft, Balangkayan and Giporlos in Eastern Samar. – Kathryn Mae P.
