Smart includes video streaming in extended free internet promo

Smart Communications Inc. is extending its free internet promo to 69 million prepaid subscribers until February 28, this time including video streaming.

 

The promo was supposed to end February 5.

 

“We are excited to expand the Smart Free Internet promo to include video streaming, since we all know how much Filipinos enjoy watching videos online,” said Charles A. Lim, executive vice president and head of Wireless Consumer Business of both Smart Communications and Sun Cellular.

 

The 30-megabyte (MB) limit, however, stays in the promo and subscribers must register before using the service, the telco said.

 

The free internet promo lets subscribers watch videos, browse through social media, visit websites, or scour for data on search engines.

 

Smart initially offered the free internet promo last September 26 until November 30, and has been extended since.

 

This prompted rival Globe Telecom Inc. to re-launch its free Facebook service.

 

Since then, Smart and Sun prepaid subscribers have expressed mixed reactions, including slow internet service.
