World's best airlines get awards in Paris Air Ahow
Qatar Airlines got back the top spot after it was voted the world's best airline for 2015 earlier this week during the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, France.
The carrier previously won the Skytrax World's Airline Awards in 2011 and 2012, before slipping down to second place in 2013 and 2014. The award recognizes the world's best air carriers.
Other airlines in the region also secured places at the top of the standings, with Singapore Airlines improving to second place. Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific gave up last year's top spot for third, while Asiana Airlines slid down to 11 after its Top 8 finish last year.
Thai Airways landed at 19th, while Japan Airlines improved to 21st. Bangkok Airways, Malaysia Airlines, and AirAsia received the 23rd, 24th and 25th spots, respectively.
AirAsia also took home the Best Low-Cost Airline for the seventh straight year.
"We faced many challenges this past year but I am proud to say that our staff banded together for our guests and we have emerged stronger than ever," said AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes.
"To be named the 'World'' Best' for the seventh consecutive year is an incredible honor, and I dedicate it to the 17,000 AirAsia Allstars who are the force behind it all," he added.
Garuda Indonesia got the award for having the best cabin crew, and EVA Air of Taiwan got the nod for having the cleanest cabins.
Flag carrier Philippines Airlines improved slightly from 93rd place to 87th this year. Cebu Pacific failed to make it to the Top 100.
The World Airline Awards, also known as the Passengers Choice awards, was launched in 1999 when Skytrax first launched its global airline passenger satisfaction survey. Almost 19 million passengers from 110 countries participated in this year's survey, weighing in on an array of categories from cabin crew demeanor, seat comfort and food quality. – Renee Fopalan/VS, GMA News
