After pilot testing, ‘beep’ cards now being used at other LRT-2 stations
After pilot testing of the touch-and-load 'beep' cards earlier this week, other stations on the Light Rail Transit Line 2 began using the new system on Thursday, a TV report said.
A "News To Go" report quoted AF Payments CEO Peter Maher as saying that the pilot testing of the tap-and-load card went well at the Legarda Station last Monday, despite some glitches.
He added that they sold some 6,000 cards.
The company could not say, however, when the card may be used for MRT-3 and LRT-1.
AF Payments earlier said the unified ticketing system was initially slated to be introduced for LRT-2 in "early May," then for MRT-3 in June and LRT-1 in July.
The company has been contracted to supply and install a total of 731 gates, 138 ticket vending machines, 221 point-of-sale devices, and 44 station computers across the three rail lines, Maher earlier said.
He added that they would roll out the new system to be used alongside the old ticketing system before the formal turnover, initially scheduled in September.
Maher, however, said the system would "need to be all working 100 percent for a certain number of weeks" before they hand it over to the government. — Rose-An Jessica Dioquino/JDS, GMA News
