Stockbroker Regina Capital used to hold P2M worth of Alphaland shares

(Updated 2:56 p.m.) The stock brokerage Regina Capital Development Corp. has held some 200,000 shares in Alphaland Corp., the property developer embroiled in an allegedly questionable land deal with the Boy Scouts of the Philippines.

"Per our records, which we can submit, the maximum amount of shares that we held for two individuals is about 200,000," Regina Capital Chairman Victor Limlingan told a Senate hearing on Thursday.

"That's worth about P2 million. And we will be ready to submit it and have it certified by the Capital Markets Integrity Corporation that they have audited our books and that per the record, the only shares Regina Capital held were around 200,000 shares of Alphaland," said Limlingan, whose brother Gerry has been tagged as the alleged bagman of Vice President Jejomar Binay.

In a related development, Regina Capital President Marita Limlingan clarified that the Alphaland shares belonged to clients and have since been disposed of before Alphaland was delisted by the Philippine Stock Exchange.

The wife of Victor told GMA News Online that it is "... a wrong impression that Regina Capital is holding the shares illegally."

She said all the stock brokerage firms had at one time or another probably held shares in Alphaland in the course of doing business.

The Ongpin-led Alphaland will be delisted from the PSE for failing to comply with the disclosure requirements, the exchange said in an e-mailed statement in early September 2014.

The PSE removed Alphaland from the Official Registry of the Exchange on October 20, 2014.

During the hearing on Thursday, Victor was replying to a statement by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano that Regina Capital acquired P100 million from Noble Care, which the company got from Alphaland.

At a Senate hearing in February, former Makati Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado alleged that the then Alphaland President Mario Oreta used Noble Care to hide Binay's supposed 5-percent kickback from the BSP-Alphaland deal.

The Senate Blue Ribbon subcommittee is investigating the alleged anomalies involving the Binay family.

Marita has denied all the accusations before a separate subcomittee hearing last May.

"There is no truth to the accusation that Regina Capital is involved in illegal activity or any attempt to launder money for anyone, including the Vice President. Regina Capital never transacted with the Vice President and his family," she said.

In the said hearing, Marita authorized the Senate to coordinate with the Philippine Stock Exchange in probing into the transactions of her company.
