iflix takes in MGM as investor and partner

iflix on Tuesday said Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) is now an investor and content partner in the internet television service.

 

The investment entailed the appointment of MGM Chairman and CEO Gary Barber to the advisory board of iflix and a multi-year content-licensing partnership between the two companies.

 

MGM agreed to contribute television and film content that comprises a portion of the 20,000 episodes in iflix’s library of entertainment content.

 

"MGM’s substantial weight, influence and resources in the industry will be a critical advantage for us... as we look to solidify our leadership in Southeast Asia and expand into new markets," iflix Group CEO Mark Britt said in a statement.

 

The online television service was recently launched in Malaysia and Philippines. The company will roll out the product in Thailand and Indonesia this year. – Keith Richard Mariano/VS, GMA News
