Cebu Pacific to start Manila-Guam route next year
By JON VIKTOR CABUENAS, GMA News
Budget airline Cebu Pacific will begin flying to Guam, USA on March 15, 2016, with an initial four trips weekly.
This marks Guam as the first US destination of the local airline, making it the only low-cost carrier flying directly between the Philippines and Guam.
The island of Guam comprises of about 26 percent of Filipinos, Cebu Pacific noted.
"Having Guam in our network sets us off on another expansion path across the Pacific. With the launch of Guam, we offer fares that are up to 83 percent lower than other airlines," Cebu Pacific President and CEO Lance Gokongwei said in an emailed statement on Wednesday.
"Fares this low can only mean more tourists to both countries, more Filipinos visiting home, and more opportunities for everyone," he added.
The entry of Cebu Pacific into the market will add 1,440 weekly seats to the current 5,900 weekly seats available between Manila and Guam.
"Recent data show that the Manila - Guam route is relatively underserved, compared to other destinations with smaller Filipino populations," the Gokongwei-led company said.
The airline also announced promo fares to Guam with P2,500 all-in seats available until November 29,2015 with a travel period from March 15 to November 30, 2016. Regular fares will be priced P7,197.
The Guam route will operate every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, and will utilize an Airbus A320 fleet.
The flight will depart from Manila at 03:45 a.m. and arrive in Guam at 10:15 a.m. while the Guam-Manila flight will leave at 12:30 p.m. and arrive in Manila at 02:55 p.m.
The new routes bring Cebu Pacific's network to a total of 64 destinations on 98 routes including flights to Sydney, Doha, Beijing, Tokyo, Bali, and Dubai. —ALG, GMA News
