Restoration of MRT-3 escalators nearly complete – Jardine Schindler

The restoration of escalators at the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) stations along EDSA is on track to be finished before the year ends, Jardine Schindler Elevator Corp. said on Friday.

Out of the 12 Schindler escalators up for rehabilitation, 10 have already been repaired and are functional, Jardine Schindler Managing Director Jesus Bernando Palma III said in a phone interview.

"We are almost complete. We are quite a little bit advance," he said.

The government awarded Jardine Schindler a P22.11 million contract in June to restore the escalators for the MRT-3.

This contract covers the following stations: North Avenue, Quezon Avenue, GMA-Kamuning, Ortigas, Shaw Boulevard, Boni, Guadalupe, Buendia, Ayala, and Magallanes.

"This project aims to provide some relief to commuters – especially senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and pregnant women – by causing the refurbishment of escalators," the DOTC earlier said
