TE SubCom to upgrade South-East Japan Cable System
US-based undersea communications technology firm TE SubCom is upgrading the South-East Japan Cable (SJC) System, the company said on Thursday.
Using TE SubCom’s latest 100-gigabyte per second transmission technology , this third upgrade increases the system capacity by 6.3 terabytes per second (Tbps).
The system links Brunei, Japan, Hong Kong, Philippines, Singapore, and mainland China.
In a statement released by Globe Telecom Inc. on Thursday, TE SubCom said it has signed a contract with the consortium to upgrade the system. Globe is a member of the SJC consortium.
Upgrading the 8,986-kilometer SJC System will be completed at the end of June 2016, and is expected to meet the increase in demand for businesses and communications in the Asia-Pacific.
