IEEI gets DOTC contract to restore MRT-3 escalators
The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has awarded International Elevator & Equipment Inc. (IEEI) the contract to rehabilitate the escalators at Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) stations.
"The second batch of conveyance facilities of MRT-3 is set for restoration," the department said in a statement Thursday, after awarding the contract through the Department of Budget and Management's procurement service.
The DOTC said the P65.48-million contract covers all 34 Mitsubishi escalators.
"IEEI holds proprietary rights to rehabilitate this second batch of escalators, being the brand’s exclusive distributor," the department noted.
The rehabilitation will take 223 days from when the notice to proceed is issued.
"This project aims to provide relief to commuters especially senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and pregnant women," the DOTC said.
The escalators inside the following stations will be renovated:
- Araneta Center-Cubao (8 units)
- Shaw Boulevard (8 units)
- Boni (2 units)
- Buendia (4 units)
- Ayala (10 units)
- Taft (2 units)
"The remaining batch of conveyance facilities that is under procurement consists of the total replacement of 32 escalators, which became obsolete in 2013," the department noted.
Earlier this year, the DOTC announced the completion of the first batch of escalator refurbishment. – Ted Cordero/VDs, GMA news
