DENR to release San Roque Metals' audit results next week

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is releasing next week the results of a comprehensive audit on San Roque Metals Inc. (SRMI).

The miner operates in Agusan del Sur.

According to a report on GMA News' "Unang Balita," the DENR said SRMI has responded to a show-cause order. The situation is now being validated by the department.

"The audit now includes civil society, kasi the other audits were just MGB [Mines and Geosciences Bureau]... But this one, now, is an audit including civil society. So 'yung audit ngayon ay mas comprehensive, hindi gaya ng audit na nagawa in the past," Environment Secretary Regina Paz "Gina" Lopez said in an interview.

"I've been there before. When I was there, there were complaints. There was a mine spill there before, eh... But that was years ago. I hope they fixed it na," she added. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
