DENR's Gina Lopez claims she is not totally against mining

Environment Secretary Regina Paz "Gina" L. Lopez on Thursday said she was not totally against mining, but rather against the destruction of the environment.

"My policy is no destruction of the environment that destructs human lives," she said during a Commission on Appointments hearing at the Senate on her nomination as Environment secretary.

Lopez also noted that while she ordered the closure and suspension of 28 mines and the cancellation of some 75 mineral production sharing agreements (MPSAs), she also allowed some 13 mines to continue operations.

"I passed 13 large scale mines... The Rio Tuba mining is really nice," she said. — MDM, GMA News
