JobStreet: The most 'friendly' employer to fresh grads is banking industry
The banking sector was the most “friendly” when it comes to hiring fresh graduates in 2016, the JobStreet Fresh Graduates 2017 Report showed on Wednesday.
“For those fresh graduate-friendly industries, you can see them in banking, transportation and logistics, and manufacturing for personal and household products,” JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip A. Gioca told reporters in a briefing in Taguig City.
According to JobStreet data, majority or 95 percent of employers in the banking and transportation industries said they would hire fresh graduates, while 90 percent of employers involved in personal and household manufacturing said they welcome new graduates.
“Eight out of ten of our employers would hire fresh graduates,” Gioca said.
While the numbers mean 20 percent won't hire fresh graduates, mainly because of certain criteria, the “majority of our employers hire fresh graduates,” Gioca emphasized.
“We asked our employers, ‘What do you look for? Why are you not taking in fresh grads?’ The number one answer is ‘We only have specialized position.’ Number two: ‘We only hire applicants with work experience,’ and number three, ‘There are no vacancies for fresh grads in our company last year,” Gioca said.
Among the most reluctant to hire fresh graduates in 2016 were food manufacturing, and beverage and tobacco industries with only 33 percent of employers saying they would hire fresh graduates.
Other reluctant industries were healthcare industry (26 percent) and the information technology (IT)-software industry (22 percent). — VDS, GMA News
