Incident could not defeat our spirit —Resorts World Manila


Travelers International Hotel Group Inc., the operator of Resorts World Manila, on Friday expressed grief over the recent incident at its hotel and casino in Pasay City.

"This cowardly act of a deranged mind will not defeat the spirit on which Resorts World Manila was built," the company said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange.

"This is a sad day for Resorts World Manila," it added.

The company said that at approximately 12 midnight on June 2, 2017, a lone gunman barged into Resorts World Manila firing shots and setting gaming tables on fire.

"The company’s security, together with police authorities, launched a hot pursuit and at around 7 a.m. this morning, the gunman was found dead," it said.

The company noted that the suspect has taken his own life by setting himself on fire followed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"As of this time, the Company has extended medical assistance to the 54 individuals who were taken to nearby hospitals," it said.

"Our security team and Bureau of Fire Protection are currently conducting search and rescue operations on all floors," it added.

The company said it regrets of several casualties, the number and identities of whom have yet to be determined.

"As soon as this information becomes available, we shall be informing their loved ones," it said.

"We ask for your understanding during this difficult time," the company emphasized. —KG, GMA News
