PAL gives senior citizens, PWDs discounts for domestic flights booked online

Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) on Tuesday announced the grant of a 20-percent discount and a 12-percent tax exemption for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) on domestic flights.

"Discounts and exemptions apply to resident Filipino citizens purchasing regular fare tickets and is not applicable to other taxes, fees and charges and ancillary service like extra baggage and to tickets issued as a reward or prize," PAL said in an emailed statement.

According to the airline, travelers must log on to the PAL website to be able to avail of the discounts and exemptions.

For senior citizens, they must bring an Office of Senior Citizens Affairs identification card, in combination with a Philippine passport or any other government-issued ID.

For a PWD, they must bring a PWD ID, in combination with a Philippine passport or any other government-issued ID.

PAL said those who fail to present the required identification cards would result in the collection of the 20-percent discount and the 12-percent VAT exemption based on the current applicable fare at the time of check-in.

They may also be fined P1,500, or their ticket may be forfeited.

Budget carrier Cebu Pacific announced similar discounts and tax exemptions last week. — MDM, GMA News
