Globe, Daiso Japan in electronic payments deal

Globe Telecom Inc. has teamed up with Daiso Japan to enable electronic payment across outlets of the Japanese retailer, the telco said on Monday.

In an emailed statement, Globe said customers of Daiso Japan—the authorized retailer of Daiso Industries Co. Ltd.—can now pay for goods and services by using quick response (QR) codes.

“With the GCash scan-to-pay feature, customers with a GCash account and smartphone can easily pay the exact amount using their phone,” GCash president and CEO Albert Tinio said.

Daiso Japan operates as a unit of Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc. and sells home and kitchen ornaments and beauty essentials.

“There is no longer any need to wait for loose change or pay in smaller denominations, or even stand in line for a long time,” Tinio said.

Last year, Tinio said that Globe expects to reach a 10-million subscriber base in 2018. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
