GMA-7 Employees’ Multipurpose Cooperative (GEMPC) has signed a partnership deal covering an electronic and cashless payment scheme with Globe Telecom Inc.’s GCash.

In a statement on Wednesday, Globe said GEMPC is now acquiring a cashless payment scheme for cooperative members.

GCash will provide GEMPC members with additional services such as disbursement of funds via GCash EMV Beep Mastercard, prepaid load purchases, and bills payment.

“More importantly, GCash will enable a cashless set-up in the GEMPC grocery and canteen,” the telco said.

GEMPC chairperson Jose Vernon Jacela said the partnership provides more opportunities for the members to be financially responsible through the use of technology.

“Over two decades of the cooperative’s existence, the time is ripe to slowly shift in adopting an electronic payment scheme that will still adhere to our objectives in this humble organization,” Jacela noted.

“With GCash, our members and future members of the GEMPC will be encouraged to maximize the use of their smartphones and most importantly, their EMV beep cards to multiple uses both here in the company and in the outside world,” he said.

GCash’s CEO Albert Tinio said the terms with GMA-7 Employees’ Multipurpose Cooperative have been really extensive in order to provide the utmost service.

“GCash is not just an online app service on a smartphone but can also be used in day-to-day transactions through the EMV Beep cards,” Tinio said.

These EMV Beep cards are usually used for every day commute in the metro’s unified ticketing transportation system. The card can also be used at any of the 33 million Mastercard-enabled shops locally and internationally.

The current Philippine landscape projects that with over 50 percent of the population using smartphones and more than 70 percent Globe customers, GCash is the future of payment in the country, the telco said.

It has over 12,000 GCash partner outlets nationwide and a growing number of merchants using GCash as a payment tool. —VDS, GMA News
