Company tagged by LLDA denies it caused 'red river' in Laguna

The company tagged by the Laguna Lake Development Authority as the source of chemicals that turned to red a river in Biñan, Laguna said water discharged from its facilities undergo water treatment.

According to 818 East Asia Group Corporation, they have not received any results of tests or notice of violations after inspections by the LLDA.

"We are fully cooperating with the LLDA and we are willing to comply in case any improvements need to be made," the company said.

"In relation to the story stating that we are responsible for the incident at the Biñan Riverby Barangay Soro-Soro, any water that we need to discharge passes through our watertreatment prior to discharge."

It added that its facility is five to eight kilometers away from the incident.

"Because of the distance and the fact that all inks we use are water-based and free from hazardous substances, we believe there is no connection between the incident and our operations," it said.

The LLDA earlier said the chemicals that turned the river red came from the 818 East Asia Group facility. —JST, GMA News
