Nacho King! to expand to groceries with nacho chips

Food cart operator Nacho King! has announced plans to expand into the mass market by offering ready-to-eat chips in local groceries.

In an interview with GMA News Online, Nacho King! co-founder Mike Singh said the company has seen a 15-percent sales growth driven primarily by lower-priced products.

With this, Singh said the company plans to offer two kinds of chips in local groceries.

"We plan to go into the groceries. We're not into the groceries right now," said Singh.

"There's two kinds—there's pre-flavored chips, but then there's also unflavored that people buy with salsa, cheese, it's called restaurant-style nachos," he explained.

Singh said the products are tabled to be in shelves within the next two months, primarily in the big grocery chains.

"We'll start with the big chains and we'll eventually expand," he said.

Singh said the company is also likely to retain prices at their current levels, which it can accommodate given other revenue streams.

"Of course, costs continue to go up, and we're not really able to increase prices," he explained.

According to Singh, 50 percent of the company's business is made up by the carts, while the remaining half is accounted for by wholesale.

"I think our growth will be about 15-percent overall sales growth. Bottom line with probably be flat to last year," he said. — BM, GMA News
