Libreng tawag centers in Ompong-affected areas

Both Smart Communications Inc. and Globe Telecom Inc. have put up "libreng tawag" stations in areas affected by Typhoon Ompong (international name: Mangkhut).

In separate advisories, the two telecommunications companies identified the areas where the stations are located.

"The network of Smart remains operational in most provinces hit by Typhoon Ompong. Communication services, however, may be limited in some areas due to unavailability of power and damage to network facilities. "We will continue to put up Libreng Tawag and charging centers and conduct relief operations in places which need us most. We are closely working with the respective local government units and humanitarian agencies to provide these services to other areas soon as possible," said Globe marketing officer Miguel Bermundo.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin on Sunday, PAGASA said Ompong was spotted at 705 kilometers west-northwest of Calayan, Cagayan, packing maximum sustained winds of 145 kilometers per hour (kph), and gustiness of up to 180kph. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
