BDO warns of ‘Verify Now’ phishing emails

BDO Unibank Inc. on Tuesday warned its clients about an advanced phishing scheme that exposes their information to fraudsters just by clicking a link.

In an advisory posted on its Facebook page, the Sy-led lender advised its customers not to click the "verify now" link in a suspicious email.

"New advances in phishing no longer require you to input information. Clicking on malicious links can activate malware and give fraudsters direct access to your data," BDO said.

BDO also encouraged customers to forward the suspicious emails to the bank immediately and then delete them.

"BDO will never ask for any sensitive informations such as OTP (one-time password), PIN (personal identification number), CVC (card verification code), or password," the bank said. — Ted Cordero/BM, GMA News
