LTFRB opens 20,000 slots to new TNVS applications

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has opened 20,000 slots for accreditation of new Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) operators in the country.

It opened the online registration for new TNVS operators from December 17, 2018 to January 3, 2019, the board said In an emailed statement.

Only a few of the TNVS operators, under the master list earlier submitted by Transport Network Companies (TNCs), filed for a Certificate of Public Convenience , one of the accreditation requirements.

Last February, the LTFRB put in place a nationwide cap of 65,750 on TNVS, of which 65,000 was allocated to Metro Manila.

But the LTFRB noted only around 35,000 have the necessary requirements to be accredited.

Last September, Grab Philippines said it had only 35,000 active drivers serving 600,000 bookings per day.

But the number of active drivers declined after the LTFRB removed the TNC’s P2 per minute travel charge. The per minute charge has since been restored by the board. — RSJ/VDS, GMA News
