Cebu Pacific hits record 68,284 passengers flown in a single day
Budget carrier Cebu Pacific posted a new record in total number of passengers flown in a single day, during the peak travel period for Christmas holidays 2018.
A total of 68,284 passengers flew on 414 domestic and international flights of Cebu Pacific and its subsidiary Cebgo on Dec. 21, 2018, the airline said Monday.
The December 21 record topped the previous record of 65,298 passengers that happened during last year’s peak summer season, particularly on May 7, 2018.
For the yuletide peak season—Dec. 16, 2018 to Jan. 7, 2019—a total of 1.391 million passengers took Cebu Pacific flights, reflecting an increase of 7.4 percent from the year earlier period.
“As passenger traffic continues to grow, we are committed to improving our service to make flying with Cebu Pacific more pleasant, safer and more efficient,” said Michael Ivan Shau, chief operating officer of Cebu Pacific.
On any given day, Cebu Pacific and Cebgo operate more than 400 flights out of seven hubs in the country—Manila, Clark, Iloilo, Kalibo, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro (Laguindingan), and Davao.
It has 37 domestic destinations, and 26 international destinations covering Asia, Australia, the Middle East, and the United States of America.
In a separate statement, Cebu Pacific said it took delivery of the latest addition to its fleet—its first A321neo.
As of Dec. 31, 2018, the airline’s fleet consisted of 71 aircraft—36 Airbus A320s, seven Airbus A321CEOs, eight Airbus A330s, eight ATR 72-500s, and 12 ATR 72-600s aircraft.
“Between 2019 and 2022, CEB expects delivery of five Airbus A320NEO (New Engine Option) and 32 Airbus A321NEO aircraft, as well as four ATR 72-600 aircraft,” it said. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
