McDonald’s takes in GrabFood to expand online service


Golden Arches Development Corp., the exclusive franchise owner of global fast food chain McDonald’s in the Philippines, has partnered with app-based food delivery service GrabFood to boost its online delivery service.

The partnership was launched in Taguig City on Tuesday.

McDonald’s Philippine managing director Margot Torres said GrabFood is the fast food chain’s first and only end-to-end food deliver partner. The app-based food delivery service will use its own fleet of to deliver McDonald’s meals to customers from initially 60 stores in Metro Manila and Metro Cebu.

“We are hoping to hit at least 100 stores this year to service GrabFood orders,” Torres said.

Grab Philippines country head Brian Cu said the partnership will help boost GrabFood’s aim to expands its operations.

“We’re very bullish about the delivery business. I think there are more than enough in-house riders partnering with Grab,” Cu said.

Despite the partnership, McDonald’s Philippines will continue operating its in-house delivery service. “It’s just about giving a choice to the customer. It's giving customers more option,” Torres said.

“The benefit really is we’re already seeing double-digit growth for delivery business in the past three years. Partnering gives us flexibility to meet that demand. In the end, we want to meet the service time and deliver our promise of a certain minute guarantee,” she added.

In October 2018, McDonald’s Philippines opened its first NXTGEN store equipped with self-ordering kiosks. 

McDonald’s Philippines now has 25 NXTGEN stores, Torres noted. —VDS, GMA News
