Water supply availability reaches 96% — Manila Water

Water supply has been restored to 96 percent of customers of the east concession zone, Manila Water Co. Inc. said Friday.

"Water from the tap is now available to 96 percent of Manila Water’s customer base compared to 80 percent last week with water supply available from 8 to 12 hours, at least at the ground floor level of their residences," the water service provider said.

Manila Water came under fire amid the shortage on water supply experienced in some areas in Metro Manila and Rizal province.

The water utility has since apologized for the water service interruptions as it blamed the increase in demand and inadequate supply have been aggravated by the El Niño phenomenon.

"Manila Water has significantly improved water services when it began adopting a rotational water supply scheme for all its customer on March 14 allowing the 28 reservoirs to recover and refill," it said.

"This was complemented with various technical and network improvements such as finetuning of valving activities, installation of line boosters and laying of reinforcing lines particularly for areas located at the high elevation and those far from the source such as those implemented in Barangay Addition Hills in Mandaluyong," it said.

For areas where water availability is still below 8 hours, Manila Water said it continues to provide water tankering support such in the following areas:

  • Raja Sumakwel of Upper Bicutan in Taguig
  • Kawilihan in Bagong Ilog, Pasig
  • Hulo in Mandaluyong
  • Portions of Kasiglahan Village in San Jose and San Isidro in Rodriguez, Rizal
  • Portions of Quezon City
  • Guitnangbayan in San Mateo and Sitio Halang in Binangonan, Rizal

"Additional supply coming from various sources has also began augmenting supply. A number of deep wells have also begun operations while 24 million liters per day are produced from the recently-commissioned Cardona Water Treatment Plant," Manila Water said.

"Manila Water assures that it is exerting all efforts to bring water availability back to its normal levels at the earliest possible time," it said. — RSJ, GMA News
