Luzon grid placed anew under yellow alert

The Luzon grid was placed anew under yellow alert, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said on Monday.

The NGCP said it will be on yellow alert starting 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The details for the raising of yellow alert will be disclosed later by the Department of Energy (DOE).

The Luzon grid's available capacity is 11,286 MW against an expected peak demand of 10,438 MW.

Yellow alert is a condition in which the reserves are less than the capacity of the biggest plant online, which is 647 megawatts for Luzon.

The alert, however, does not necessarily mean that power interruptions will occur.

Last Friday, the Luzon grid was also put under yellow alert due to thinning reserves following the unplanned shutdown of some power plants.

The DOE has assured the public that the power supply is sufficient and there will be no interruptions expected despite the series of yellow alerts this summer season. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KG, GMA News
