CEZA says Chinese company raided in Ortigas has authorization issues

The Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) on Wednesday said the company in Ortigas Center where more than 200 Chinese employees were arrested recently has issues regarding the authorization granted to it.

Due to this, CEZA spokesperson Mike David said they put on hold the operation of the company, Grapefruit Service, Inc.

David revealed that Grapefruit was only authorized to operate a single floor office.

CEZA discovered however that Grapefruit actually operates on four floors of the building.

“Medyo may kaunting komplikasyon kasi authorized namin is only one floor,” David said in an interview on Dobol B sa News TV aired on GMA News TV.

Initially, the Bureau of Immigration issued a mission order to arrest only four fugitives wanted by Beijing for an investment scam.

But the operation led to the "incidental arrest" of more than 200 others who were caught conducting "illegal online operations."

David added the company initially applied as back-end office only.

Allegedly, the company operates in the guise of a call center company but was supposedly involved in an investment scam selling cryptocurrency to their fellow Chinese. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
