SM climbs to 172nd spot on Forbes’ list of 250 best-regarded firms

Sy-led conglomerate SM Investments Corporation (SMIC) has risen to the 172nd spot in Forbes' annual list of the worlds "best-regarded" companies.

Forbes partnered with consumer survey and statistics firm Statista to come up with the 250 best regarded companies out of the 2,000 largest firms in the world.

The top 250 companies were ranked based on "trustworthiness, social conduct, the strength of their products and services and how they fare as employers."

SMIC's current ranking is up 63 spots from last year's 235th place.

“We are honored to receive this recognition. We anchor all our businesses in good corporate governance and we remain committed in strengthening our ability to create meaningful impact to society and deliver greater shareholder value,” SMIC president and CEO Frederic DyBuncio said in a statement on Tuesday.

SMIC is the only company in the Philippines to get a spot on Forbes' annual list. This is also the second year that it has been listed among the world's best-regarded companies.

To come up with the latest list, Statista surveyed 15,000 respondents from more than 50 countries, according to Forbes.

This year, Forbes also recognized SM in the inaugural list of "Asia’s 200 Best Over a Billion 2019," which cited best-run companies in the Asia-Pacific Region.

SMIC ranked No. 1 in the Philippines and No. 27 among 200 top-performing listed companies across the Asia-Pacific region.

SMIC was also ranked among the Forbes Global 2,000 World’s Best Employers for 2018 and 2017. — Ted Cordero/BM, GMA News
