Employment priorities of Gen Z job seekers
The Generation Z demography—age range 18 to 24 years old—is expected to make up 35% of the workforce in the next five years.
A recent survey commissioned by online jobs portal Jobstreet Philippines showed that career and development opportunities are major factors that attract the Gen Z to a job.
Results of the “Laws of Attraction” Survey presented to the media on Thursday by JobStreet Philippines sales manager Paul Tuazon showed that 16.7% of the Generation Z consider career and development opportunities in accepting a job.
“For companies looking to attract and retain young talent, competitive compensation packages, inclusive career development opportunities and work-life balance are crucial,” Philip Gioca, JobStreet Philippines country manager, said in a separate statement.
Here are the major considerations for the Gen Z:
- salary and compensation (14.3%)
- work-life balance (11.6%)
- management and its quality (8.4%)
- job security (8.2%).
- corporate social responsibility (6.0%)
- additional benefits (5.9%)
- company reputation (5.7%)
- job location (5.5%)
- working environment (5.0%)
- colleagues / co-workers (4.8%)
- culture and value of the organization (4.1%)
- recruitment process (2.6%)
- company size or market position (1.2%).
“This younger generation of workers also finds great purpose in values-driven companies that take corporate social responsibility seriously,” Gioca noted.
Conducted in January 18 to March 4, 2019, the survey covered a sample size of 18,378 from various industries in the country.
JobStreet noted, however, that the data is not a “nationally representative” sampling of the Philippine population—reflecting only those who are “in the market for a new job.”
“The sample is targeted to those who are actively seeking a job, or monitoring the job market and looking to change jobs within the next two years,” it said. —VDS, GMA News
