Unclaimed tea delivery due to miscommunication — Grab

The recent incident involving a Grab Food driver who was forced to sell P1,900 worth of an unclaimed milk tea delivery was a case of "miscommunication" due to language differences, Grab Philippines explained over the weekend.

In a statement, Grab said that the delivery order was a cashless transaction, which meant that the driver did not have to shell out any cash.

"Therefore, the delivery-partner did not incur personal losses nor needed to use his cash to deliver the drinks," the company said.

Grab noted that the Grab Food driver waited for more than 20 minutes to no avail as no one claimed the tea, but the customer did attempt to do so later.

"Although late, attempts thereafter by the customer to claim the drinks fell through. Regardless, we have already reimbursed the customer and have compensated the driver for his time and effort," it said.

According to Grab, drivers are prescribed to surrender unclaimed food and drinks to the company, as part of the no-show and reimbursement policy.

"We would like to remind our delivery-partners that unclaimed orders are fully-reimbursed by Grab. We also encourage our customers to review their orders and ensure accuracy of delivery details before placing an order," it said.

"We are investigating the incident beyond the facts collected so far, and necessary action will be taken if needed," Grab added. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/DVM, GMA News
