John Gokongwei Jr.'s wake details revealed


Founder and chairman emeritus of JG Summit Holdings, Inc. John Gokongwei Jr. passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, November 9. He was 93.

According to a statement from the JG Summit Holdings, Inc., the wake for the entrepreneur and industrialist will be from November 11 to November 14, from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Heritage Park in Taguig.

Daily masses will also be celebrated at 7 p.m., while the funeral mass will be on November 15 at 8 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the Gokongwei family requests donations to your favorite charity.

"We, the 75,000-strong employees of JG Summit Holdings and Robinsons Retail Holdings, join the nation in paying tribute to the founder of the first Philippine multinational conglomerate, a philanthropist with a passion for education," the statement said.

"Mr. John, as we fondly called him, was a visionary. He was an inspiration to entrepreneurs and businessmen around the nation, with his pioneering ideas, his strong work ethic, his passion, and perseverance. Today, the Gokongwei Group is one of the country’s largest and most diversified conglomerates with interests in air transportation, telecommunications, banking, food, power, property, hospitality, retail, and petrochemicals."

"He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth, and his children Robina, Lance, Lisa, Faith, Hope, and Marcia; his in-laws and grandchildren; brothers Eddie and James Go, sister Lily; and his nieces and nephews," the statement added.

Malacañang on Sunday expressed its deep condolences to the Gokongwei family.

Vice President Leni Robredo conveyed her condolences to the relatives of Gokongwei.

Meanwhile, lawmakers, politicians and members of the business community also mourned his passing. — LA, GMA News
