Angkas to develop in-app payment system

Motorcycle taxi service Angkas said Wednesday it is working to develop a payment system within its ride-hailing application to give customers options to paying fares.

“We are working on giving more payment options to our users,” Angkas founder and CEO Angeline Tham told reporters in a press conference in Makati City.

Angkas customers presently pay the app’s rider-partners in cash.

“We’re looking at developing credit cards as one of the payment options,” Tham said.

Angkas is in talks with several financial institutions to develop the in-app payment system.

“When it comes to financial institutions, we’re weighing our options right now,” Tham noted.

Last May, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) allowed motorcycle taxis, including Angkas, to operate for six months starting in in June.

Angkas currently has 27,000 biker-partners in its fleet and has around three million downloads since it began in 2016. —VDS, GMA News
