Angkas sees industry-wide push for motorcycle sharing services

Angkas has welcomed the entry into the market of more motorcycle ride-sharing apps.

According to Ivan Mayrina's report on "24 Oras", Angkas chief transport advocate George Royeca said the company saw an industry-wide push for motorcycle services.

"Maganda po 'tong development na 'to. Isang buong industriya talagang coming together to help push for motorcycle taxi," Royeca said.

Angkas, however, is still on its pilot run as mandated by a congressional resolution and guidelines from the DoTr.

Its pilot run of six months has been extended to six more months.

Six other motorcycle sharing apps—Citimuber, JoyRide, MoveIt, EsetGo, Sakay, and VroomGo—are also vying to have their own pilot runs.

On November 20, the Department of Transportation (DoTr) listened to their respective proposals.

This week, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will decide whether to let these companies conduct operations in the country.

"Dun sa past 6 months, 'yung purpose talaga is to make sure na yung viability, yung pagiging safe ba nito as a public utility vehicle ay ma-susustain," said Joel Bolanos, the Chief of the LTFRB's Technical Division.

Angkas said that its safety rating was pegged at 99.997 %. Although the company did not give statistics on the number of accidents that occurred, they assured that the number was very small. —Angelica Yang/NB, GMA News
